Supporting strategic leaders with high quality advice and advocacy, Active Dorset aims to establish Dorset as a place where people choose to enjoy an active lifestyle through participation in sport and physical activity to transform lives. A wide range of programmes are already running throughout the county which aim to increase participation and support is offered to help the work of clubs, coaches, volunteers, educators and facilities. Within the ‘Move More’  tab there is an Activity Finder and a campaigns section that includes information on the ‘We Are Undefeatable’ movement and ‘Active at Home’  which provides ideas, support and resources to help keep you active at home.

Age UK Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset

A local not-for-profit organisation helping older people (55+) in Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset to live happy, healthy, and independent lives. They provide services, activities and events, including the Better Balance Class designed to help reduce the risk of a fall which could lead to injury for older people. Bhliveactive Exercise Referral

Bhliveactive

The aim of this scheme is to increase physical activity levels, improve physical and mental wellbeing as well as better manage living with a medical condition which can often make keeping active challenging. The Exercise Referral Scheme is a personalised 12-week programme offering discounted indoor and outdoor activities to help support individuals to slowly build up their movement and encourages simple, healthier lifestyle choices. The scheme is available at the Litteldown Centre, Pelhams, Corfe Mullen and Stokewood Bhliveactive sites. If you’d like to give it a go, ask your GP, Consultant or nurse for a referral form.

The Sport and Leisure category lists an array of activities including cycling, walking as well as getting active schemes and groups. The exercise referral scheme is also available via the Dorset Council website, to help encourage and support people become more active for health.

East Dorset Health Walks

Walking for Health

Led by Volunteer Walk Leaders throughout East Dorset, Health Walks are free to attend (no need to book just turn up) and run weekly to help you establish a routine and are ideal for beginners. A great opportunity to get out in the fresh air and meet new people, so have a look to see if there is a walk near you!

Funded by Public Health Dorset, Live Well Dorset supports adults living in Dorset on their journey to become happier, healthier people by offering advice and coaching. The service is free at the point of delivery, so if you want to become more active, lose weight, quite smoking or drink less then contact Live Well Dorset today either by telephone, registering online or health professional referral.

Walking for Health

Established to create new opportunities for people to benefit from group walking, get active and meet new people. Linked to local GP practices, community hospitals and children’s centres, all walks are free and led by a trained Walk Leaders. There’s no need to book, just turn up a few minutes before the walk starts and you’ll find a warm welcome … whatever the weather!
