Walking for Health

Started by Bury Sport & Physical Activity Service to provide a variety of led walking opportunities throughout the Townships of Bury, Bury Walk with Me has now established weekly walks in Summerseat, Greenmount, Prestwich, Radcliffe and most recently in Ainsworth and Birtle. These provide 10 weekly walk options to the communities of Bury and cater for a variety of fitness levels, ranging from shorter 30 minute walks to longer walks lasting up to 90 minutes in duration. So whether you’re a complete beginner wanting to get more active, or simply feel that you would benefit from walking in a group environment with like minded individuals, weekly health walks maybe just what you’ve been looking for. Salford Health Walks

Walking for Health

A walking scheme organised and delivered by Salford Community Leisure, helping to support people in Salford to improve their health by becoming more physically active. There are currently 8 regular health walks running across the city through country parks, urban areas, the countryside as well as local town parks. All walks are up to an hour in length and are designed to help people achieve the 150 minutes of recommended moderate intensity exercise each week. A series of short, guided walks aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle for older people and are suitable for varying abilities and fitness levels. Tameside health walks are organised weekly and are between one and three miles long with some of the longer walks having cut-offs. Walks are designed to be taken at your own pace and are ideal for people who are not used to regular exercise. Each walk is led by a qualified walk leader. Walking for Health in Trafford

Walking for Health

Organised and run by local Volunteers, in partnership with Walking for Health, Trafford CCG, Public Health Trafford and Sale Sports Club, Walking for Health in Trafford offer free, organised walks across Trafford, designed for everyone of any age to join in. Walks range from 45 – 90 minutes and are suitable for beginners, those wanting to start walking or others keen to improve fitness. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, discover open spaces in the local area and above all keep active. All walks are led by a trained Volunteer Walk Leaders, who make everyone feel welcome and will discuss any individual needs at the start of a walk and plan support as required. Almost all the walks have a comfortable social base to enjoy refreshments once a route has been completed. There is no booking required, just turn up on the day (with comfortable shoes) and enjoy yourself.

An independent local charity, offering help and support to older people, their families and carers living in Trafford. Encouraging everyone to love later life, they deliver a variety of services as well as ongoing social activities and events to keep older people independent, healthy and happy. Some of the physical activities include, Exercise Classes and Health Walks  among others. They also have something called Men’s Room, offering activities just for men! Older men exercise and socialise less than older women, so Men’s Room offers a safe place for men to make new friends, engage in conversation and take part in activities such as Bowls, Skittles and Table Top Cricket.  Older men can also learn to cook with our Man with a Pan cookery course. Free, Volunteer led health walks for people of all abilities, especially those who are inactive or do little physical activity. Inspiring healthy lifestyles health walks has an extensive partnership across Wigan Borough, offering a varied, accessible and diverse programme of health walks to encourage people to walk more in their local area. All walks are friendly, welcoming and offer a great opportunity to explore the outdoors, discover new places and meet new people. Walks range from 30 minutes to 2 hours in duration and are suitable for beginners and those with medical conditions. The Volunteers Walk Coordinators provide encouragement, support and make sure no one gets left behind. With only a handful of walks requiring booking in advance, simply turn up (with a comfortable pair of shoes) on the day to join in.
