One of 43 Active Partnerships across England who work collaboratively with local partners to create the conditions for an active nation using the power of sport and physical activity to transform lives. Tyne Wear Sport are dedicated to, and passionate about, getting more people active and are particularly focused on helping those who have higher levels of inactivity to become and remain active. To achieve this, they collaborate with a wide range of partners to improve the planning, co-ordination and delivery of sport and physical activity across Tyne and Wear. Get Walking Gateshead

Walking for Health

Co-ordinated by Gateshead Council’s GO Gateshead Sport & Leisure, Get Walking Gateshead offers a series of weekly walks at various locations across the borough ranging from local parks and heritage sites to urban areas. Walking offers a great way to get out, get active as well as meet new people. All walks are free, range from 10 to 90 minutes in duration and are always led by fully trained Volunteer Walk Leaders. Age UK Gateshead

An independent local charity working in the community since 1972, helping to support older people, their families and carers. Encouraging everyone to love later life, they provide information, advice, services and recourses to older people living in Gateshead. Regular, ongoing social activities and events enable people to get out and about, find new hobbies, stay active and have fun! A local charity working in the community to support people 50+, their families and carers. By supporting individuals, they aim to empower them to love later life. By offering a wide variety of ongoing regular social activities, befriending and events in the community, opportunities are created to meet new people, build confidence as well as keeping fit and staying healthy. Activities include; organised Walking Groups, various physical health classes (e.g. Tai Chi, Yoga, Gentle circuits, Walking Football) as well as Strength & Balance courses. Walking for Health

Free, organised weekly and bi-weekly social walks led by fully qualified Volunteer Walk Leaders across North Tyneside. Offering a variety of different walks to cater for all ages, abilities and fitness levels there no better time to get active! The majority of routes also include a social element, whereby the group finishes with refreshments as the walk concludes to allow all walkers to return in their own time and at their own pace. Walking for Health

A well-established walking programme offering a range of guided walks across South Tyneside and Newcastle. Delivered by a dedicated team of trained Volunteer Walk leaders, all are free and offer a great opportunity to get outdoors, get active and meet new people. All walks are carefully designed to ensure they’re suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels so are perfect for beginners or those returning to gentle exercise. With no previous experience necessary, everyone is welcome to join in. An independent, local charity working in the Borough of South Tyneside to support and empower older people (50+) to lead a fulfilling later life. They provide a central hub of services offering more choices to older people, to improve wellbeing and enabling them to make a difference as they age. Regular, ongoing social activities and events encourage people to get out and about, find new hobbies, stay active and above all have fun! Active Sunderland Wellness Walking Programme

Co-ordinated by Sunderland City Council, the Active Sunderland Wellness Walking Programme offers a series of free, weekly led health walks that take place at various locations across the City of Sunderland. The walks are accredited by the National Walking for Health Programme and last between 30 and 90 minutes. Walking routes take in varied landscape across of Sunderland, ranging from the coast and woodlands to local parks and urban areas. An excellent way to get out in the fresh air, meet new people and improve mental and physical wellbeing. A local and independent charity run by and for the people of Sunderland, to support older people in the city through the provision of quality services and by campaigning on issues that affect them. They are working hard to help older people in the area to get more out of later life and above all to enjoy it!
