Active Partnership

A charity, funded and supported by Sport England, and a number of other national and local organisations, and are part of a network of Active Partnerships across the country. Working across Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland with a wide range of local, regional and national partners, including local authority leisure teams, public health, planners, transport teams, the education, housing and criminal justice sectors to name a few, to make it easier and a more attractive proposition for people to be physically active. They are particularly passionate about helping under-represented groups and those who are currently moving for less than 30 minutes per week.

Age UK Gateshead

An independent local charity working in the community since 1972, helping to support older people (50+), their families, and carers. Encouraging everyone to love later life, they provide information, advice, services, and recourses to older people living in Gateshead. Regular, ongoing social activities and events enable people to get out and about, find new hobbies, stay active and have fun! Some of the physically activities include Chair-Based Exercises, Yoga, Strictly Fit-Steps, Walking Groups, and Tai-Chi. Step out in Gateshead and find regular wellbeing walks offered by local services across the borough, ranging from local parks and heritage sites to urban areas. It’s almost impossible not to feel good when walking outdoors – It’s a natural mood-booster! The great news is, we don’t need to walk far or fast to feel its effects on our health and wellbeing. Nuffield Health

A free 12-week Joint Pain Programme embracing the idea that physical activity can manage and prevent joint pain issues. Designed by experts in physical and mental health combining education, physical activity and emotional wellbeing support. And it works… People completing the programme report a significant improvement in symptoms, an improvement in quality of life and feel better able to manage in the long term. In addition to expert advice and hands-on instruction, the programme is delivered in the Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centres across the UK in groups of up to ten people, creating a support network and helping you to achieve your goals as a team. You will receive free complete access to all facilities at the Fitness and Wellbeing Centre during the duration of the programme and a significantly discounted full membership after. Age UK North Tyneside

Age UK North Tyneside is a local charity working in the community to support older people, their families and carers. Their aim is for everyone to be able to love later life. One of the ways they achieve this is by offering a wide range of exercises and activities. Ramblers Wellbeing Walks

A well-established walking programme offering a range of guided walks across South and North Tyneside. Delivered by a dedicated team of trained Volunteer Walk leaders, all are free and offer a great opportunity to get outdoors, get active and meet new people. All walks are designed to ensure they’re suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels so are perfect for beginners or those returning to gentle exercise. With no previous experience necessary, everyone is welcome to join in. An independent, local charity working in the Borough of South Tyneside to support and empower older people (50+) to lead a fulfilling later life. They provide a central hub of services offering more choices to older people, to improve wellbeing and enabling them to make a difference as they age. Active Sunderland Walking Programme

City of Sunderland Council

Co-ordinated by City of Sunderland Council, the Active Sunderland Walking Programme offers a series of free, weekly health walks that take place at various locations across the City of Sunderland. The walks last between 30 and 90 minutes and routes take in the varied landscape of Sunderland, ranging from the coast and woodlands to local parks and urban areas. The walks are an excellent way to get out in the fresh air, meet new people and improve mental and physical wellbeing.
